competitive teams U9-U19

Year-round training and competition for players ages 9 to 18. Tryouts held every May.

about our competitive program

Eclipse fields over 30 competitive teams across boys and girls age groups, serving 600+ players each season. Teams are formed through our annual May tryouts and compete in NorCal Premier leagues and tournaments throughout the season.

Training is designed to be appropriate to each player's developmental stage — building technical skills early and introducing tactical complexity as players grow.

season structure

  • Tryouts — May
  • Held each May for the following season. Players who make a team are notified within one week of tryout completion.  Signups open in March and players may sign up anytime up to the start of tryouts.

  • Summer* — June through July
  • Training begins with your team. Three field practices per week. Internal scrimmages throughout. 11v11 age groups may participate in a tournament.
  • U9–U19: 3 field practices per week (late afternoon and evening time slots)

  • Fall* — August through November
  • The main competitive season. Three field practices per week with your team. NorCal Premier league play with games every weekend. State Cup competition for qualifying U11–U19 teams. 2–3 tournaments during the season.
  • U9–U19: 3 field practices per week (late afternoon and evening time slots)

  • Winter — December through February
  • Optional. Weekly rink or turf practices with your age group — not your team.
  • Teams with 75% or higher availability may participate in optional tournaments.  Those teams will hold separate team practices the week of a tournament.
  • Players who want additional competitive opportunities can join COPA Futsal League at additional cost.

  • Spring* — March through April
  • U9–U12 (7v7 and 9v9): 1 field practice + 1 rink practice per week, plus free play and weekend scrimmages.
  • U13–U15 (11v11): 2 field practices + 1 rink practice per week, plus free play and weekend scrimmages.
  • U16–U19 (11v11): 3 field practices per week, plus free play and weekend scrimmages.
  • For U13 and older (11v11): Spring includes State Cup — this is a commitment. 11v11 teams pause State Cup during high school soccer season so our players can represent their schools, and resume after. Families need to plan for spring availability accordingly. Those teams will hold separate team practices 2 weeks prior to a state cup match.
  • Teams with 75% or higher availability may participate in optional tournaments during spring as well. Those teams will hold separate team practices the week of a tournament.

*Included in annual club fees.

what to expect

specialized training

All sessions are led by Eclipse staff coaches following our club philosophy. Training is developmentally appropriate — younger players focus on technical fundamentals, while older players work on tactical understanding and game intelligence.

Twice a season — end of Summer and end of Fall — every Eclipse club player receives a written evaluation from their coach. Not a ranking, not a comparison to teammates. A real assessment of where your kid is, where they're growing, and what to work on next.

It's one of the ways we make sure development isn't just something we talk about.

competition

  • League Play: NorCal Premier leagues, with competitive level assigned to best support each team's development
  • State Cup: Annual competition for U11–U19 teams in Bronze, Silver, or Gold brackets. U13 and older teams also may compete in spring.
  • Tournaments: 2–4 in Summer/Fall. Optional tournaments in winter and spring for teams with 75%+ availability.
  • Scrimmages: Internal scrimmages and Free Play occur year round

playing time

We strive to provide committed players equal playing time through U13 — including the first year of 11v11. Players U14 and older earn playing time based on performance, effort, and attendance.

commitment expectations

attendance

We ask for 75% attendance over the course of the Summer/Fall season. Consistent attendance benefits individual development and is fair to teammates and coaches planning around a full roster.

summer/fall priority

We ask that soccer is your child's priority sport June through November. Players with significant fall sport conflicts should disclose them on the tryout form so there are no surprises. We fully support multi-sport athletes as long as conflicts are communicated in advance — keep your coach and the attendance tracker updated with any scheduling conflicts several weeks ahead of time.

multi-sport athletes

We actively encourage multi-sport participation. Winter programs are optional and spring is a lighter season — both work well for families managing other sports and activities. Note that U13 and older players have a spring commitment for State Cup. If your child's schedule overlaps with our season at any point, communicate it early.
